Description - Description: The EEV (Emerging and Endemic Viruses) and LRC (Laboratory Response Covid) departments of the RIVM use research kits consisting of a GLY medium and swabs. GLY medium A GLY medium is used for the transport of patient material for which a virus culture is desired. GLY stands for: gelatin, lactabumin hydrolyzate and yeast (yeast extract). These substances in a tube with a solution and combined with (changing) chemicals form the GLY medium. Most GLY media have been specially developed for certain viruses.
