Description - At the UMC Utrecht viscoelastic coagulation tests are performed by CDL laboratory staff within the laboratory section of hemostasis and thrombosis. This is often done upon request during cardio-thoracic surgery to monitor the efficiency of blood clot ting during surgery. Visco-Elastic coagulation assays provide a complete picture of a patient's hemostasis, and includes information about the formation of a clot, its strength and also its lysis in whole blood. Together, this information is important for management of risks of bleeding or thrombosis.
